New Work: More Sticker Samples

Okay it's been a long, long time… again. I'm really bad with the updates these days. I feel like I've been adding too much to my plate for the last few months on one hand, but feel I always work best when super-busy. That being said, I still have the problem of all-work, no-play and not much I can really share, as so much of my current work is confidential until released.
So, what's new? Well, here are some more stickers I've worked on that were release earlier this year. I always get a kick out of seeing these in production. I do fairly detailed product concept sketches, that are then interpreted in various materials (paper, fabric, epoxy, mylar, you name it). I do a LOT of these and it's usually pretty fun. These two themes are something of a departure for me. I'm really not down with the hunting and fishing - but it's kinda fun to explore themes you're not familiar with.
Sometimes I'm amazed at how closely they follow the sketch - I mean look at the camo pattern on the hat - it's almost an exact translation! Ha!

Award: CPSA D.C. 219

A couple weeks ago I submitted two pieces to my local CPSA chapter who were putting together a show of colored pencil works. I did not know they would be awarding anything but much to my surprise and delight, one of my pieces "Queen Quagga" was awarded First Prize. I would like to thank the chapter for organizing the event and Around the Corner Art Framing Gallery for hosting. It was lovely meeting so many members and visitors at the reception last week.

Illustration Friday: SIGNS 2

Second attempt, second thoughts. This one feels little forced. And it was. I made myself do it... in hopes that if I keep making myself follow through - I'll eventually get better at it. Better at the follow through, and better at the illustration.

Illustration Friday: CITRUS

This was an early promotional piece for my design group: Tangerine Cafe. We do everything with citrus... and coffee there. ;)

Illustration Friday: PEACE

I never thought of myself as having a pronounced dark side, but between this and Smitten I'd say it's coming out... in force. I don't know WHY these things are popping into my head. But that's just what happened this morning, when I was just in that place between sleeping and awake, this image popped into my head, and I didn't forget it - during the course of the whole day. I finally sat down to sketch in the late afternoon... and I didn't stop. I kept it going. So now it's done. I believe this is my FIRST OFFICIAL NEW AND COMPLETE PIECE for Illustration Friday! Hey, it only took a year. And since my friend, Jonsie, totally called me out last week, I thought it was about time I followed through. So there Jonsie! What do you think of that?! ;P

Illustration Friday: SMITTEN

I'm a little behind on this... but it's getting in just under the wire. And it's not quite complete. This is the underpainting stage. I am excited to finish, so I'll be sure to post it again as soon as it's done.

It's the closest I've ever gotten to a finished Illustration Friday themed piece it was conceived and executed solely for Illustration Friday. I know this shouldn't be such a big deal, but it is for me - any pieces I've created solely for IF before were either sketches or quick digital renderings. It'll be tough to finish this and start the new theme tomorrow, but I'm looking forward to the challenge.
