Illustration Friday: SPROUT

Work in Progress. Wanted to get the post up, since it doesn't look like I'll be able to finish it this week... but one can still hope.

Work In Progress: HEY DIDDLE!

This is a series I have been commissioned to create for a friend's nursery. Even though the guest of honor arrived in December, he's still awaiting his paintings. It's been hard to get motivated considering how many times this subject has been done. I wanted to make it an interactive series though, so all characters will appear in each panel and that took a bit of planning. I have a bit more research to do, then on to the final sketches and finished pieces! I'm supposed to have them done within the next two weeks - let's see how it goes!

Illustration Friday: RED

I know this is very late, but I do have a good excuse. I was travling abraod! I've just got back from 10 day work trip to Germany and France. I had a lovely time, but I didn't get to stay up with my IF while I was away!

While this is a random sketch I did a few weeks ago, and highly inspired by the beautiful drawings of Petra Borner, it obviously suites the theme of 'red'.

Getting to work now on the new theme...more random work coming.

Illustration Friday: 80s

Flash Puppy.
I don't know why, but the papillon seems like an 80s dog to me... maybe it's the fly-away hair. This pup's got a few extra accessories. Silly I know, but I was sketching and this just popped into my head, so I hought I'd post it. I hope to do either a finished piece for this or something else later in the week.
Oh and check out my updated SMITTEN.

SMITTEN: Updated

I am currently working through old ideas I never completed.

The completed illustration, at last! I'm very happy with it. Anyone have any comments?
Here is the original underpainting, with writen title included:

Illustration Friday: BUZZ

a la tea stain.
I dropped a tea bad on a page in my sketchbook today (on purpose), thinking I'd turn the strain into a drawing. I blew around the excess water and, completely randomly, it took on this body-like shape with legs! And when I lifted the teabag itself, there was an almost perfect heart shape right in the middle. I added some details with chalk and graphite, then finished the eyes with colored pencil.
So here's my buzzzzzzing queen bee, for a little something completely different from me.

Illustration Friday: PHOENIX

a work in progress...

didn't have time to complete this tonight... didn't even make it to the final sketch. :( these are the first roughs, direct from my sketchbook. but I feel it's a solid start to telling my story of the egyptian phoenix, just outside Heliopolis. it's meant to be somewhat audubon-like in format & structure, but the final look should be quite different.
