Illustration Friday: CHAIR pt.2

I just got a flash of on image in my head – this little girl sitting in, not a “highchair”, but a chair with long tall legs. So I started drawing her, and the chair around her and as I drew, the chair just... became, a bird. Then it got fun. It’s just a sketch now – but I’m really looking forward to finishing it!

I’ve shown it to a few friends and what I really love is that they don’t know if it’s supposed to be real or if she’s imagining it, or what. I really hate how the first question they ask is: Is it an ostrich?

No, no no nononononooooo.

I don’t know what it is, but I like it!

Hope you enjoy it as much as I do! :)

I've never seen your work before. I love your style! It's right up my alley, especially this girl in her whacky chair!

Hey, cool illos on both parts.

scbwi NYC was my first time, and I am still digesting all that ocurred. It's encouraging and exciting, but sort of deflating and disheartening at the same time. I am thinking about going to the California one in August, just to give it one more try now I feel a little more educated. beyond that, I don't know, I'll just keep doing what I do and see where it leads me. I am not going to allow myself to get too caught up in all the bulls**t. My time is too precious on this earth as it is, and stress is not an option. Just means it's not meant to be if it doesn't work out. I understand what you mean though. Thanks for stopping by.

I like this one a lot! It's wonderful just the way it is - great idea and composition, but I can't wait to see it finished! And I really agree with you on your previous post!
All the best!

You have certainly covered the wide world of chairs in your two posts! As much as I initially dislike topics like the one this week, I find that they push me to think outside the box and come up with an idea I want to draw! I love how you let your fanciful mind (where unicorns and other mythological creatures seem to romp free) just take over and create something fabulous! Will you add color to this? I absolutely adore what you do with colored pencil:>

I think that all the bases were covered by everyone about your illustrations. Thank you for the post/comment. I like your illustrations as well, from your other blog. Very clean...I like that stuff. Have you ever seen www.totembookmedia.com or www.kurthalsey.com ???? I am inspired by them at times, beyond some current animators. Thanks again. ts

WONDERFUL
I love it when a form just grows and grows on you and takes on a life and destiny of its own

Very cool idea, a chair that morphs with the sitter's imagination! I bet it'll look marvellous with colors. Your little chair designs in pt 1 are equally splendid!

great job once again. i love the overall style, energetic and lively. you should consider doing a short animation based on it, i think there may be a lot of things you can do about it.

Very cute and original. I would love to see the finished piece. The expression on the girls face is great too.
